GAME
Lions only had 8 players on the pitch against 11 of us.
Celts started with 4-3-2-1 for 3 MF in line closely cover each other, but did not work good as expected.
All MF played at center and needed to spread wide a bit, so changed to 4-4-2 in 10min from the start.
Then, the game started with a very good rhythm of Celts.
We played almost of the time in Lions end.
We had some of good crosses and shooting chances, but only a few of them went to the target.
DF line kept the line high, no chance to get pushed backwards.  Tatsuya had few touches in the 1st half.
Andy McGovern on the side line keeps lotating the sub every 10min.
The half time talk was that we need more aggressiveness, challlange on the ball and pass and run attitude.
The 2nd half was like more ball pocession for us, and created side attackings and short passing into the penalty area.
There were a few chances we only had to push the ball into the net.  But none of us could not make the last touch.
We started having a bit of frustration and under pressure to get the score.
Only one goal would helped us, but we could not make that one goal.
Scoreless until end. Then, straight into the 3players penalty shootout.
Billy, Yuichiro and Kei took. The 2nd kicker in Lions hit the post, three of us took all into the net.
As the 1st game after almost one and half months break, each of us played well.
But, as a team, it needs more level up.
Each stamina, basic skill on ball control and team play attitude are the base of the team.
Then, build the combination in the team every game.
Keep fit your level to bring your performance good.
Lastly, thanks to Andy McGovern and Sam for coming to help out the team in such raining weather.

Football Talk (Match Report on 1203/2011 vs BFC 0-3)

The review to the game vs BFC, Saturday 1203
Result 0-3
Squad: Tatsuya
Paddy AndyM Toru James
           Kei   Niall
Jesper                 Jonesy
            Jo   Chiharu
Sub: Billy, Andrew Gardner

GAME
Completely beaten by BFC.
In the wet and slippy condition which was same to both teams,
2 great shots of BFC from out of the penalty box in the 1st half made such a big difference on each result.
Except those BFC’s goal scoring chances, Celts played hard and well.
Everyone chased every ball in MF and DF, had a lot of short passes, and a couple of shots were seen from out of the box by Kei.
At the moment, clearly Celts needs to improve lots of things to beat these teams with high level performance.
There might be a lot to mention about the game, but I want you all to look forward for the next coming games.
We still have a lot of games to play.

It is time to restart the team again from the start of the new year.
Everyone refreshes during this one month break, and bring your condition back or even better by the next start in the middle of January.
I will pick up players for the first 3 games in the new year from who are fit enough and able to make a run and willing to fight in the game.

Celts coming up Events:
December 10th next Saturday: X’mas party Pub Golf (see the mail from Andrew McGovern)
January 8th Sunday: New Year 7’s at YCAC

Tuesday Futsal: Dec 6th, 13th, January 10th, 24th, and 31st.

Football Talk (Match Report on 1126/2011 vs Panache Panthers 1-2)

by kantocelts 1. December 2011 15:57
The review to the game vs Panache Panthers, Saturday 1126
Result: 1-2
Squad:  GK  Tatsuya
James    AndyM    Toru    Jonesy
                Kei       Niall
Paddy             Jo            Yuichiro
                   Wataru
Sub: AndyG, Hiro, Soichiro
GAME
Looking back the game after a few days.
1-2 lost to Panache Panthers.  Obviously Panache was fighting and focusing on the game until the end to take us down.
This is the result of what we were not enough.
Clearly saying, we play very good game in the 1st half when we have stamina, but in the 2nd half with losing stamina,
the marking in the midfield gets lose and give a free runner to make a free shot.  This was seen a lot of times in many games.
Another point is, if we score 2 goals in the 1st half, we play very good game until the end.
But when we only score 1 goal or none in the 1st half, the team is easily gets unstable with small mistakes or one conceded goal or negative communication.
Late 2nd half when we want to score, when we need to gear up, the team does not have a power to give a run.
This is one big issue now,  lack of stamina!!
When I see the positive thing in this game,
DF line moves the ball side to side, MF was shifting its position to pick up the ball from DF.
Our 1st score came from the left side cross into the far post Wataru.  The cross to the far post always creates a big chance.
As a result of we focused on the side attackings, now the team creates a lot of chances from both sides.
What we need to focus a bit more is passes to change the attacking side.
This doesn’t have to be switching the side with a long range pass.
A couple of square pass and making yourself moved from side to center or center to side make another angle for attacking.
By moving side to side, the marking gets lose and gives more accuracy on the pass as well as creates a space to send a pass.
Towards the coming up games in the new year, I set one more step up of the whole team with every member involved.
Team Subject
1, Stamina
2, Positive Communication.
3, Imagination for attacking and combination.
These are on understanding and feeling each other in the team.
Also, Football needs the creativity on the basic skills.
This is about what type of pass you are going to send.
For instance, if the pass is for setting up a shoot chance, it must be very easy control pass.
If it is to make the guy run at top speed, the pass needs to be very accurate and same speed as the runner. It should not stop the runner.
4, Judging speed
When everyone releases the ball 1 or 2 seconds quicker, the game will change.
You can easily send the pass to the space and receiver does not have tight marking.
Good example is 2 touch futsal. Quick judge, pass and run, will create more space,
If you are thinking with carring a ball, that is going to be late to send a pass.
I will explain some of these on this Saturday, and also may try a couple of new things.
Everyone’s effort will bring a small change one by one. But that step up would never happen without your effort.
This team is able to make one more big step up through this season.

Football Talk (Match Report on 1112/2011 vs FC International 3-1)

by kantocelts 15. November 2011 15:57
The review to the game vs FC International, Saturday 1112
Result: 3-1
Squad  GK  Tatsuya
James   Hiro   Toru   Jonesy
           Niall   Yuichiro M
Katsu         Yuichiro N       Jesper
                      Jo
Sub: Riaz, Kei
Game
Well done boys!  Excellent performance until the end of the game.
From the start, we dominated the game against FC International.
Katsu and James linked together on the right side.
A couple of early cross and dribble in by James, and Katsu’s running into the corner pushed our playing area.
Hiro covered James well, very stable defense and provided a pass to Yuichiro Misumi a lot.
Yuichiro Misumi really worked hard to connect the ball from defense to forward.
Jonesy covered well in the left defense, Jesper was more into the attacking side.
He had dribbles into the attacking third and delivered good crosses from left into the far post, but Katsu and Jo could not reach the point.
Yuichiro Nakai’s support for Jo was good, his dribble technique could give us the time to hold the ball in the attacking zone.
We did not give any chance to FC International, Tatsuya kept it safe.
In 20min, FC International had a couple of attackings into Celts area.
One cross from left side into the goal area had Hiro stepping backwards, twisting himself and tried to head it to clear.
But the ball went into the our goal. Unfortunate to it happen. 0-1 with our own goal.
If this team was like the one in last season, we would have ourself down and frustrated by ourselves.
However, the team now is showing its change.  We knew we were dominating the game and could score.
Everyone in the team was heads up, focused on our play.
Our attacking players gave a lot of run, simply played with quick passes and challenging to the ball.
Kei came up for Niall after 25min, his challange to the ball was clearly seen and he connected the ball from side to side,
and played well with Yuichiro Nakai and Misumi.
0-1 at half time.  The team talk was that we are going to score 2 goals and win this game. Everyone shared that team goal.
Each one of us also had a clear message for what to achieve.
Jesper and Jonesy get a bit more close distance and play together.
James improves his passing accuracy.  2 Yuichiro use their speed, go over Jo and give a run into the penalty.
Katsu delivers the cross to the far post.  Jo holds the ball to deliver the ball at the top.
10min in 2nd half, the pressure in the midfield took the ball off, pushed with a counter attack.
Katsu, Jo, Yuichiro Nakai all joined this. A cross from the right side reached Yuichiro in front of the goal.
He turns and had a ball on his left foot pass to the net.  1-1 .  Great run of everyone.
Riaz came in this timing for James, right side back.
We had 10min after this with FC International’s rhythm. But Celts defense and Tatsuya patiently kept it safe.
We started to hear a lot of shout by Jonesy and Jesper for marking.
Hiro and Toru communicated a lot to keep the line high.
Giving the pressure in the midfield brought another chance for us.
25min, we had another score by Yuichiro Nakai pushing into the right side goal. 2-1.
Even we were leading the score, the game was very tight, needed a lot of concentration not to give mistakes.
FC International had a chance a few times, one shot into the net was his off-side.
We had James back in to stable the defense line, Katsu for Niall and put Misumi for right side.
Misumi now got a space to show his speed.
Late 2nd half, we had Jesper running into left space for Jonesy’s pass, and Yuichiro Nakai and Misumi had great run in the right side.
Kei also hits the cross bar at 18m FK in front of the penalty area.
At 35min, Jo was replaced by Riaz, Jesper for Katsu.
Just 2min before whisle, Yuichiro Nakai’s dribble in the center and pass to Katsu running left, Katsu gives direct touch to another Yuichiro Misumi
free running in right side. Misumi just pushed it into the net.  3-1.   Great attacking combination.
This let FC International down, and we closed the game safely.
In total, Great run and fight with all of us in the team.
It is important that we brought this result. Everyone shared that we were winning this game and what we needed to do on the pitch.
The aggressiveness is back to Celts.  Let’s keep this mode up.
We have 2weeks to the next game.
As I talked after the game, the team needs everyone of you keep you fit enough.  No one loses his shape during this 2weeks.
For those lads coming back to the squad from absense, you need a lot of work to catch up with the team.
Great win!  Thanks all for your effort.

Football Talk (Match Report on 1105/2011 vs Swiss Kickers 1-2)

by kantocelts 6. November 2011 13:57
The review to the game vs Swiss Kickers, Saturday 1105
Result 1-2
Squad: GK   Tatsuya
Yuichiro     Toru   Hiro    Jesper
                     James
     Kei                           Jonesy
                    Wataru
              Katsu         Jo
Sub: Sho, Soichiro
Score: Jo
Game
Should I say unlucky to this lose?
We got the first score in early 1st half by Jo.
Jo’s dribble into the space in right side, pass to the space in front where Katsu was running into.
Katsu just touched back and made one-two, Jo recieves again, and softly curved the ball into the left side net.
This is what we need.
1. quick judge of a pass to the space.
2. the other one shares the imagination and make yourself running into the space.
3. one touch play like one-two combination.
4. Pass and Run attitude
5. Pass to the corner of the goal
This score was all in one set. and well played by Katsu and Jo.  Every single important thing is here.
In the 1st half, we conceded their equalizer. An untight marking let them shoot from out of the box.
Tatsu could not reach.
Their 2nd goal was in 2nd half. Their FK restarted with a short pass at 30m range.
He just chipped into the penalty area, Swiss KIcker’s player just touched on the head and rolled into the goal.
Even the restart of the short pass was unexpected, everyone was watching the ball, and had losen the marking.
Overall, we started the game very well.
Kei and Wataru chase down the player, and helped the ball moving.
Yuichiro shuts down the right side and well communicated with other defenders.
Tatsuya had several great saves at one on one.
Swiss Kickers started dominating the ball with passing and used the side-backs well.
Celts needed to run after them.  It was mostly after their move.
We have to proactively organise the defense in midfield. That needs more talk in our team on the pitch.
Good thing was Celts shows several breaking into the left side with Soichiro, Jesper, and Jonesy.
They gave great crosses. Several chances were by Wataru, Jo and Sho in front of the goal.
Jo also had one on one with GK a few times.
We got to take these chances to the result.
In positively talking, side attacks we had were one thing in attacking styles. We have some great cross creaters, and they bring it to chances.
As I talked after the game, there were so many mis-passes and losing the ball on the first touch.
This is an individual skill and mind set either you think can’t lose the ball or easily give it away.
Each pass needs the accuracy and has to be easy to control for the receiver.
When we lose the ball many times like today, they will pick it up and start dominating. For them, it’s easy to defend.
One more thing is, we obviously stopped our foot. Lack of stamina.
If you don’t do your work for fitness, you would not be able to play throughout 80mins.
Next Game: November 12th Saturday next week, 17:10 kick off.  Same Hachioji Park vs FC International.
Let’s have a good squad out,  prepare well with this one week.
Keep your fitness, and keep your head up!!

Football Talk (Match Report on 1029/2011 vs El Diego 7-1)

The review to the game vs El Diego, Saturday 1029
Result 7-1
Squad  GK      Tatsuya
Will      Toru    AndrewM   Jesper
                  James
  Kei                                 Sho
                 Wataru
             Katsu     Chiharu
Sub: Hiro, Riaz, Masa
Score: Wataru, Kei, Chiharu, Sho, Wataru, Sho, Wataru
Game
7-1.
Big result, and also a great turn up of everyone.
We missed Paddy and Jo for the last minute call, but Hiro, Sho and Masa helped out us.
The talk before the game was that we play 4-4-2 with a diamond MF, but those Sho and Kei
try to play close to the central James and Wataru. Give the side space to Will and Jesper cover.
The game starts with our ball pocession. Kei and Willl took the ball off in midfield quite often.
Jesper and Andrew covered the left space very well.
Celts DF line moved the ball to one side to the other and seeks any chance to give a run to Katsu and Chiharu.
After a couple of Katsu, Sho and Chiharu’s run into the penalty, we had a good cross from left side.
Katsu tried to push it but GK saved then Wataru kicked it into the net. 1-0 in 5min.
It was a great start of the game.
We kept playing with giving a pressure, holding the shape and balance of the team.
Nothing risky around our penalty, given Tatsu to secure the ball. very good combination of DF and Tatsu.
We had Sho, Katsu always seeking the space behind Diego DF line.
Chiharu and Wataru try to come back and receive the ball to create the next attacking setup.
In 20 min, several passes on a side, put the cross in, free running Kei pushed another goal into the net.
Katsu’s injured his ankle, put Sho up front with Chiharu, Masa comes in to replace the left MF.
Sho starts showing his great skill with his speed and dribbling.
As Chiharu responded to Sho’s performance, he attempted his dribble into the penalty several times.
Then, he finally got the one to score. Very short step dribble into the penalty left two marking guys behind
and easily shoot into the goal.  3-0.
Before half time, James pulls out, put Kei at central role and try Riaz for right side MF.
3-0 half time.
Nobody expected the goal rush in the 2nd half at this stage.
It started with Sho’s right foot super volley shot with Jesper’s cross and Chiharu’s one touch setup.
Both amazing skill and combination was beautifull to see from behind.
After that, we kept playing very well, given the pressure by Kei, Riaz, Masa and 4 backs.
Masa played really well to cover left side even he made his debut in this game.
3 upfront, Chiharu, Sho and Wataru also come back to make the midfield space compact.
They see those distance kept close to support others.
Then, We get the ball, attack from sides or sometimes hold the ball at the back.
In 20min, put James back on for Riaz, put Chiharu right side, Wataru and Sho upfront.
We added other three goals by Wataru and Sho again in the 2nd half.
One conceded score was let Diego’s player dribblling into left side space into the penalty, Jesper was on to stop the cross.
Next moment, it seemed he dived after the ball, but the referee’s call was pointing the penalty spot.
Nothing Jesper could do. He did not make any intentional fauls on him.
7-1 after all was a big score result.
We should be happy with this.
The steady back line was good enough to stop any Diego’s attacking.
They played very patiently, causing no stupid fauls, no mis-marking.
Thanks to Will, Andrew and Jesper.
Also, Tatsuya’s command from GK was good to hear.
He is very stable and saved us with several one on one situation. Getting him with a confidence is a good part.
Again, thanks all to bring this result.
We know what we can do when playing as a unit and understand what to do.
We keep this good mode, also needs everyone keeps fit enough to show your best performance.
Please do your work-out.  We are also looking for any chance to make a team session.
The game this weekend is also important, so be ready for that!!
Thanks all.

Football Talk (Match Report on 1009/2011 vs Hibs 0-2)

by kantocelts 13. October 2011 13:57
The review to the game vs Hibs, Saturday 1009
Result 0-2
Squad  GK      Tatsuya
Chris      Toru    AndrewM   Will
              James    Kei
Chiharu                                 Jesper
               Katsu    Jo
Sub: Oliver Niall
Game
We played well last two games and brought the result to us, and now against Hibs.
The last season’s 1 win and 1 lost against Hibs. We don’t get so nourvous to such a league champion team any more.
The game started with both teams try to dominate the middle of the field and quick pass sent to forward.
James, Kei, Chris, Will and Andy were always tracking players to mark.
Those run caused Hibs miss-passes.
Andrew and Toru intercepted their passes, Tatsuya often make sure he catches the ball in his hand to start building up again.
We had many attacking chances. Short passes in Jo, Katsu, James, Will and Kei.
Sometimes Jesper was running in to left side space.
Chiharu helped a lot on the right side, but could not find the space in front to show his speed.
Hibs also tries short pass, long range cross, and even swapping the striker to get score.
Our DF line and Tatsuya kept it safe, but a couple of great shots for Hibs from the outside of the box.
Celts played with a lot of passes onto foot.  but none of shot were made.
There was one scean that Jo got fall off in the penalty, but the referee judged it as his dive and yellow card to Jo.
Jesper and Chiharu sent good crosses a couple of times from both sides.
From the Hibs goal keeper view, those high crosses into near the goal area were easy to catch.
Also there were no shots into the goal, so he would not feel any upset.
Oliver came on for Chiharu, and his several dribble-in to the penalty created chances.  But No one to make the last shot.
0-0 at half time.
2nd half, Niall came on for Kei at the start.
Celts gradually loses its stamina.
Side MF stay away at side, central MF run to cover wide range.
2 strikers can’t give the pressure all the time.
Hibs starts dominate the ball in the midfield, and Celts becomes counter style.
James and Niall took the ball quite often in midfield, and We had Katsu, Chiharu for those run.
But, those passes on the field were not highly effective to set up the goal chances.
After 15 min, Andrew got his leg injured after 2 sliding tackles.  He stayed on the pitch for a while.
But our DF and MF defense let the Hibs midfielder shoot from out of the penalty box, it hit the left post and into the right side net.
The shot itself was amazing shot, but the point is we let him give that shot.
I thought if one of our players could do that...  even just set the mind to make a shot from any angle.
5min later, the pin point pass from Hibs MF into the penalty, the receiver was not offside and no one marked.
One on one situation, but chose a pass to another runner in front of the goal.  He just pushed it to the net.
0-2 to Hibs.
No one to blame those 2 conceded goals. but as a team, everyone of us needs more attention to who you are marking.
There was some communication in Celts to pass the marking player.
On the other hand, we often be a ball watcher, too much attention onto the ball only and lose your marking.
After the game, the team had a talk.
Actually, the game was even, we played well.  Passing to each foot is good play.
1. We can see short passes connecting many of us in the central field, but those passes don’t end with shooting.
2. We also realized, 4 MF spreads out.  They have to get more central space to keep close each other.
3. Strikers can’t chase the ball all the time, we have to run as a unit to take the ball.
Here are the several points we have to improve. (not long term, immediately! )
--Crossing quality, cross speed, time in the air, spot and angle to create the cross.  (Even the FK and CKs)
--Shut down any shooting chances in and out of the penalty box
--Both side wings don’t stay a side, they play more central and use side backs for both sides
--Quick judge on substitution
--Central midfield joins attacking even into the penalty, that gives one guy plus for passing options
--Square passes to change the tempo.
--Everyone does pass and run.
--Distance between each player, distance between FW and DF line, distance between side to side.
If we could make this compact, we can play as a unit.
--Shooting
Shot from out of the penalty, then DF comes out to mark. there we can find the space to pass or run.
We CAN do this with your awareness changes.
If we can keep fit, we can play good, get the confidence, and we can play as a unit with covering each other.
The phrase of “playing as a unit” means a lot.
Keep close, running stamina, team communication, running for others, and fighting spirit to take the ball.
Now, we play together more than one season. We all know each other’s playing style and each strength.
We now have 2 and half weeks to the next match.  Either use this two weeks to keep your condition or been relaxed.
Your performance on the pitch will show how much effort you will have made.   All I can say is “KEEP FIT”.
Next Game: October 29th Saturday at Hachioji Park
Time: 13:00
Team: El Diego FC
(as James Bates announced last Saturday)
Let’s score some goals in this game.
For those who have injury, make sure it’s recovery first.

Kanto Celts

Football Talk (Match Report on 0918/2011 vs YCAC 2-1)

by kantocelts 19. September 2011 15:29
The review to the game vs YCAC, Sunday 0918.
Result 2-1
Squad: GK Tatsu
Chris    Toru   Hiro   Will
           Wataru  Niall
Paddy                       Yuichiro N
             Peter   Katsu
The last minute pull out of Jo, Yuichiro Misumi and Katsuhiro(Wataru’s friend) left us only 11 on the pitch.
No linesman, No substitute.
First of all, thank you to all the 11 guys who came down this time.
This small but smart running squad made such a brilliant taste of a win over our competitor YCAC.
I know some of those boys, who could not make this time, wanted to be a part of this victory.
Former right back, Chris Moorsy’s come back pushed Paddy to the right midfielder.
About using either Peter or Wataru for upfront or central midfielder was, Peter was for upfront for the combination with Katsu.
The game started with solid marking in defense and midfield.
Niall’s ball stealing was often seen in the central area. Wataru sits at the center to take the balance.
Yuichiro on the left side made several chances to show his ball techniques, and also creating crosses to
Peter and Katsu inside and Paddy running far post.
Defensively, Will, Hiro and Chris follow Toru’s line control.
Will does not only go on headers and return the ball to attacking side, he also yells for pushing up to help midfielder.
He made some overlaps over Yuichiro and gave a great cross.
A couple of shots from Peter and Katsu inside the box were seen, but not into the target. 0-0 in the 1st half.
We talked about a bit more push up of DF line to help the midfielder in the half time talk.
2nd half started with Celts rythm, and our midfielders controled the ball.
But it was YCAC who got the 1st chance to make to the score just after 5minutes.
Throw-in on our right side, YCAC short passes just out of the box gave one small guy running into the box and smashed with his left foot.
Toru knew this small one running into, but 2 on 1 situation did not give him reach.
This was because of mis-marking.   we can do better on this.
After we conceded the goal, we were not heads down, we knew we could make the chance.
Paddy, Peter, Katsu, Niall and Wataru’s passing in the right side and broke YCAC left back down.
Katsu’s ball receiving skill was good and he tackled YCAC defenders so many times. His quickness and space finding is a good advantage.
Also, Will, Yuichiro and Peter dominated on the left side, give a lot of good crosses. Wataru’s corner needed just one more touch to the goal.
25 mins, Wataru picked up the ball at 30m range, switching to his left foot and next moment, smashed into the right headge of the goal.
YCAC goal keeper could not move.  1-1.
It was brilliant shot and got Celts back on. The all 11 swiched on to get one more.
All the MF and FW made so many good runs and played well with short passes on the ground.
DF and GK Tatsu kept it safe, none of mistakes in the penalty box.
That continuous effort brought one more goal to the Celts at 30min.
Niall chipped over the DF line and Peter follows into the right side goal line area, gave a direct touch cross to the near post.
The young Yuichiro was running in, touched the ball into the net.  2-1.
Great run and attacking composure at this late 2nd half.
We safely played the last 10min and finished the game 2-1 to YCAC.   Great Result.
We know we can show our great performance and able to bring the result to us when we play as a team.
Good thing in this game is, everyone trusted each other, made runs for others, no frustration in the team.
To make one more step up, more talk and encouraging voice on the pitch may be needed.
We have 3 weeks break to the next match on Oct 8th Saturday, Hachioji Park vs Hibs.
Tuesday Futsal is organised, midtown fartlek is on, keep your shape.
Great result this weekend. Let’s win the game one by one.
