Game
We played well last two games and brought the result to us, and now against Hibs.
The last season’s 1 win and 1 lost against Hibs. We don’t get so nourvous to such a league champion team any more.
The game started with both teams try to dominate the middle of the field and quick pass sent to forward.
James, Kei, Chris, Will and Andy were always tracking players to mark.
Those run caused Hibs miss-passes.
Andrew and Toru intercepted their passes, Tatsuya often make sure he catches the ball in his hand to start building up again.
We had many attacking chances. Short passes in Jo, Katsu, James, Will and Kei.
Sometimes Jesper was running in to left side space.
Chiharu helped a lot on the right side, but could not find the space in front to show his speed.
Hibs also tries short pass, long range cross, and even swapping the striker to get score.
Our DF line and Tatsuya kept it safe, but a couple of great shots for Hibs from the outside of the box.
Celts played with a lot of passes onto foot. but none of shot were made.
There was one scean that Jo got fall off in the penalty, but the referee judged it as his dive and yellow card to Jo.
Jesper and Chiharu sent good crosses a couple of times from both sides.
From the Hibs goal keeper view, those high crosses into near the goal area were easy to catch.
Also there were no shots into the goal, so he would not feel any upset.
Oliver came on for Chiharu, and his several dribble-in to the penalty created chances. But No one to make the last shot.
0-0 at half time.
2nd half, Niall came on for Kei at the start.
Celts gradually loses its stamina.
Side MF stay away at side, central MF run to cover wide range.
2 strikers can’t give the pressure all the time.
Hibs starts dominate the ball in the midfield, and Celts becomes counter style.
James and Niall took the ball quite often in midfield, and We had Katsu, Chiharu for those run.
But, those passes on the field were not highly effective to set up the goal chances.
After 15 min, Andrew got his leg injured after 2 sliding tackles. He stayed on the pitch for a while.
But our DF and MF defense let the Hibs midfielder shoot from out of the penalty box, it hit the left post and into the right side net.
The shot itself was amazing shot, but the point is we let him give that shot.
I thought if one of our players could do that... even just set the mind to make a shot from any angle.
5min later, the pin point pass from Hibs MF into the penalty, the receiver was not offside and no one marked.
One on one situation, but chose a pass to another runner in front of the goal. He just pushed it to the net.
0-2 to Hibs.
No one to blame those 2 conceded goals. but as a team, everyone of us needs more attention to who you are marking.
There was some communication in Celts to pass the marking player.
On the other hand, we often be a ball watcher, too much attention onto the ball only and lose your marking.
After the game, the team had a talk.
Actually, the game was even, we played well. Passing to each foot is good play.
1. We can see short passes connecting many of us in the central field, but those passes don’t end with shooting.
2. We also realized, 4 MF spreads out. They have to get more central space to keep close each other.
3. Strikers can’t chase the ball all the time, we have to run as a unit to take the ball.
Here are the several points we have to improve. (not long term, immediately! )
--Crossing quality, cross speed, time in the air, spot and angle to create the cross. (Even the FK and CKs)
--Shut down any shooting chances in and out of the penalty box
--Both side wings don’t stay a side, they play more central and use side backs for both sides
--Quick judge on substitution
--Central midfield joins attacking even into the penalty, that gives one guy plus for passing options
--Square passes to change the tempo.
--Everyone does pass and run.
--Distance between each player, distance between FW and DF line, distance between side to side.
If we could make this compact, we can play as a unit.
--Shooting
Shot from out of the penalty, then DF comes out to mark. there we can find the space to pass or run.
We CAN do this with your awareness changes.
If we can keep fit, we can play good, get the confidence, and we can play as a unit with covering each other.
The phrase of “playing as a unit” means a lot.
Keep close, running stamina, team communication, running for others, and fighting spirit to take the ball.
Now, we play together more than one season. We all know each other’s playing style and each strength.
We now have 2 and half weeks to the next match. Either use this two weeks to keep your condition or been relaxed.
Your performance on the pitch will show how much effort you will have made. All I can say is “KEEP FIT”.
